The 2014 GMC Sierra full-size truck has debuted alongside the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, and we're sure the two designs have fueled the ongoing debate on whether the GMC truck is sufficiently differentiated from the Chevrolet. In a new video, GMC executive design director Ken Parkinson talks about the new Sierra inside and out, detailing why certain design details appear on the truck. Below that, we've also featured the official Silverado and Sierra debut video.
Parkinson says the Sierra has a brawny and powerful look, noting that "it's almost like a fist in the wind." Compared to full-size trucks like the Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Sierra definitely remains on the boxy side of the popular segment. 2014 Sierra customers want to be proud of being seen in this truck, Parkinson notes (perhaps even more so than for the 2014 Silverado).
The designer specifically calls out the well-defined front and rear wheel well flares and notes that the interior was designed with input from current GMC customers. The 2014 Sierra's navigation screen is placed up high, inside you'll find real aluminum, and Parkinson says customers wanted an instrument panel that appeared "tall and powerful."
In the official unveiling video of the 2014 Silverado and 2014 Sierra (below), GM's Mark Reuss claims that the two trucks "are more differentiated than ever before in our history," citing different materials, standard content, and design.
