Feature Flick: Ford Touts Global Appeal of New Focus ST

The all-new Ford Focus ST will be making its debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Enthusiasts worldwide are looking forward to the new hot hatch – especially those of us located in the U.S., where we’ll be getting the hot ST trim for the very first time.

Behind the wheel of a pre-production prototype version of the Focus ST is Jost Capito, Ford’s director for global performance vehicles. We’re given a pretty clear look at what the final ST will look like – and it’s almost identical to the concept show at last year’s Paris Motor Show – while Capito is ringing it out on Ford’s European test track. That track has a number of different surfaces that replicate what it is like to drive the Focus ST on roads in places such as California, England, and Europe.

Capito also reminds viewers that the new Focus ST will get the same suspension setup, the same wheels, and the same tires all over the world. It will also use the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four EcoBoost engine rated at 247 hp and expected to return at least 250 lb-ft of torque. As this is slated to be an enthusiasts’ car, the six-speed transmission will be a good old-fashioned, row-it-yourself manual.

The Ford Focus ST will make its debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and is expected to go on sale next spring. Make sure to stay with Automobile Magazine for all our Frankfurt coverage.
