We've all seen the disclaimers on TV commercials that admonish "Don't try this at home," but the message clearly hasn't sunk in for every viewer. For proof, watch as the driver of this Ford F-150 SVT Raptor demolishes his truck after attempting a high-speed jump.
The SVT Raptor is a specially designed off-road version of the Ford F-150 pickup truck. Upgrades include Fox Racing suspension components, giant off-road tires on 17-inch aluminum wheels, a Torsen limited-slip front differential, and a total of 11.2 inches front and 12.1 inches rear suspension travel. A 6.2-liter V-8 engine sends 411 hp and 434 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Of course, even the burliest off-road truck will bend and break when subjected to excessive abuse. In this video, a driver powers his SVT Raptor toward a tall, narrow jump built on a dirt track. The truck flies into the air in a way that would make The Dukes of Hazzard proud, but it's the landing that crumples the Ford's suspension. A hard, nose-down touch-down appears to deflate the truck's tires, twist its frame and body, and deploy the airbags. Needless to say, we're sure the damage won't be covered under Ford's warranty.
Off-roading fans who want to learn how to play with an F-150 SVT Raptor safely should considering visiting Ford's special Raptor school at Miller Motorsports Park. After all, with a base price of $44,625 after destination, destroying a Raptor isn't a cheap proposition.
