Ferrari technically frowns upon modified versions of its own products, but the New Stratos, built from a highly modified F430 Scuderia, appears to be an exception.
A new video shows two Ferrari celebrities -- president Luca di Montezemolo and F1 test driver Dario Benuzzi -- spending some quality time behind the wheel of the New Stratos. According to those on hand for the occasion, Montezemolo exited the New Stratos' cockpit after a spirited drive, uttering compliments including "bellisima" and "congratulazioni." We suppose, in some way, he was also complimenting his own firm, seeing as many of the mechanicals beneath the surface -- including the screaming 4.3-liter V-8 -- was born in Maranello.
Benuzzi offered similar kind words after flogging the Stratos around Ferrari's private Fiorano test circuit. He was quite impressed with the overall package, complaining only of a mild rear axle agitation during high-speed cornering. He suggested dialing in a little extra toe-in in the rear wheels -- a suggestion the New Stratos team quickly took to heart.
Following the Fiorano visit, the New Stratos team is preparing to present the car in Le Castellet France, where it will be tasked with tackling the famed Paul Ricard circuit -- albeit with a little more toe-in dialed in.
