The Jaguar F-Type is the automaker's newest kitten to be born into the litter, and while we've gotten familiar with it through photos and video, we still have yet to see what it's got going on inside. Jaguar has released a video teasing its new "sporting heart," the all-new 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 engine.
The new ticker will reportedly debut in the F-Type in two forms: a 380-hp version, and another that makes 340 hp, which is teased in the video. The all-new V-6 will reportedly have balance shafts, a dual independent variable cam timing system, and a Roots-type twin-vortex supercharger mounted in the engine's vee, which is highlighted in the video. Jaguar also emphasizes that the engine's forced-induction technology will make the new powerplant as efficient as it is powerful.
Jaguar says the V-6′s all-aluminum architecture is derived from the company’s V-8 engine, which will also find its way under the F-Type's hood in a punchier form. The new engines are designed to give the F-Type performance good enough to make the Porsche 911 worry. The new roadster will arrive in mid-2013, with a coupe to follow.
