The minivan could be considered one of the most challenging vehicle types to market. It has neither the rugged allure of pickups or SUVs, nor the sexiness of luxury or sports cars. Its appeal is strictly utilitarian, and spots must appeal to buyers' need for practicality and ease-of use. The 2014 Honda Odyssey does have a competitive over its rivals in having the only built-in vacuum in its class.
Honda released a trio of short ad spots highlighting this class-exclusive feature. Both the animated characters and voices are familiar. The cast of characters in the commercial includes lint balls, gummy bears, animal crackers, and crayons. In the commercial spot entitled "It's Here," the lint ball is voiced by Neil Patrick Harris, of "How I Met Your Mother" and earlier of "Doogie Howser, M.D." fame, and the gummy bear is voiced by Rainn Wilson known for playing Dwight Schrute on the TV Series "The Office."
The cast of characters espouses the traditional Honda virtues of longevity and reliability, while pointing out some of the Odyssey's comfort and convenience features, before being sucked up by the vacuum. The half-eaten gummy bear voiced by Wilson warns the group of their fate moments before it befalls them.
Other spots include a stampede of animal crackers attempting to escape the fate of the vacuum, and "Owner's Manual" in which the crayon is insistently pointing to the portion of the manual describing the optional vacuum cleaner. You can watch all the spots below.
