Can’t get enough of the 2013 Subaru BRZ? You’re in luck: the automaker just released nearly 20 minutes of interviews with the BRZ’s engineering team, allowing us to take a behind-the-scenes look at the sports car’s development process.
Fun facts? There are certainly a few. For instance, because the intake is on the front of the engine, the engineers had to move the starter motor to the back, right against the firewall. But in doing so, they had to put it somewhere where it wouldn't interfere with the driver's feet in a right-hand drive car. Since the boxer four-cylinder was so low, they were also forced to relocate the steering rack's power assist and lower both the dashboard and HVAC components systems. The BRZ (along with its Scion twin, the 2013 FR-S), therefore, is something of a $25,000 puzzle, a sports car that took years to fix, perfect, and polish. From what we hear from our colleagues, the work was worth it.
