There's a cryptic video from Audi on its YouTube channel featuring a compact car with quilted seats, which means only one thing: there's a new Audi A3 headed to the New York Auto Show.
The video is a short 43 seconds, shot from between the front seats of a non-descript Audi and featuring someone -- Audi doesn't say who -- boasting that he's sitting in "the hottest seat in town." That seat, for what it's worth, is the back seat of some compact sedan with quilted leather side bolsters. The leather quilts are identical to the stitching on the RS Q3 compact utility we saw earlier this year. As the camera pulls back and Audi throws a large sheet over the car, it begins to look like the long-awaited Audi A3 sedan.
That Audi A3 sedan, which debuted in concept form at the Geneva Auto Show in 2011, should be powered by revised versions of Audi's 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 gasoline and diesel engines, mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox; cars will be available with front- or all-wheel drive.
The Audi A3 will debut online on March 27th at 12:01 AM CET (7:01 PM on the 26th for Americans on the east coast); we'll most likely see the Audi A3 sedan in person at the New York auto show.
