How much more American can you get than the brash power and speed of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the 2014 SRT Viper GTS? In this Automobile Magazine video, we take these two American supercars to Gingerman Raceway in Michigan to duke it out. Instead of picking a winner, though, Automobile Magazine contributor Jason Harper ends up celebrating these two icons and what they represent while thrashing them around the track.
Harper starts off by calling the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette and 2014 SRT Viper GTS our “Yankee saviors,” waxing eloquent about how these two engaging sports cars combat the rising trend of semi-autonomous luxury cars that take the driving experience away from the driver. In these cars, various electronic systems like the Corvette’s variable stability and traction aids allow the driver to let loose if so desired, which keeps things interesting without being dangerous. The ferocious power may scare off some detractors, but Harper concludes that the endless grip and sharp handling of these two sports cars make for more poise and finesse than the 2014 SRT Viper GTS and 2014 Chevrolet Corvette get credit for.
The 2014 SRT Viper’s 640 horsepower, 8.4-liter V-10 and the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray’s 460 horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 provide a thrilling soundtrack, and Gingerman Raceway’s straightaway gives these supercars a brief chance to really stretch their legs.
