The Chevrolet Corvette symbolizes many different things for many different people. For some, it's a triumphant accomplishment of American engineering creating a formidable performance machine that rivals the performance of European sports cars costing twice or three times as much. For others, it's a symbol of aging boomers' mid-life crises. Whatever you think of it, Justin Bell wanted to take a look at the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray on its objective merits.

On the track, Bell praises the C7's sharp steering, strong brakes, melodious engine sound, and precise transmission. Back at the pits, Bell admits the Corvette has not always been universally popular with sports car purists, but says it's an iconic representation of American performance, and that the C7 takes the Corvette's performance excellence to a whole new level.

With a starting price just above $50,000, the C7 starts at 1/3 or less of some of its more exotic rivals, but can stand toe-to-toe with most of them in terms of performance and style. Bell counts the Corvette's relative commonality as a negative, but for those of us that don't pull in a seven-figure annual salary, the Corvette's attainable price for such outstanding performance is unquestionably a positive.
