Feature Flick: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Instrument Cluster, Steering Wheel Teased

The slow trickle of information continues with another teaser video of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. Though the video ostensibly touches on the electronic calibration of Detroit's new sports car, it also provides early glimpses of the seventh-generation Corvette's instrument cluster and steering wheel.

The biggest news is that the Corvette adopts an LCD instrument cluster with a digital tachometer, plus several on-screen menus detailing information like oil pressure and engine temperature. A speedometer sits to the left of this screen, but it's tough to tell from the video whether it's an analog or LCD unit.

We also get a few glances at the Corvette's new steering wheel, which will have a multitude of buttons to control the aforementioned LCD screens and other features like Bluetooth phone calls. It looks to be skinnier and more contoured than the wheel in the current Chevrolet Corvette, possibly a three-spoke design with a silver accent around the airbag.

Interior shots also show an analog clock on the dashboard of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. This could be a simple clock, some sort of lap timer like the Porsche SportChrono option, or it may simply be in place on the development car so engineers can measure lap times.

The Corvette will debut on the eve of the Detroit auto show, Sunday, January 13. It uses a new 6.2-liter V-8 engine named LT1, which will produce at least 450 hp and provide a 0-to-60-mph run of about four seconds. Chevrolet already showed off some of the car's bodywork and let us listen to the new engine's growl in an earlier teaser video. And video-game fans can test-drive the Corvette prototype (still clad in camouflage) as a free download for the PlayStation game Gran Turismo 5.We have also previously spied both a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette coupe and a convertible model.

Chevrolet plans to release another Corvette teaser video in two weeks' time, on December 13, so check back then for the more updates on the new sports car.
