Fast Man, Fast Car: Nissan Crafts Gold GT-R with Usain Bolt

What does the Nissan GT-R have in common with Olympic gold medalist sprinter Usain Bolt? Well, both are bloody quick off the line, for one thing – but now both have a golden touch. Nissan and Bolt recently partnered to create a one-off gilded GT-R that will auctioned to benefit charity.

While there may not be any mechanical upgrades for the GT-R Usain Bolt and Nissan collaborated on, it does get one very special touch: the car will be painted in gold to represent the three gold medals won by Bolt at the 2012 London Olympics. Also unique to the Bolt GT-R are interior trim pieces made of real gold, and Bolt's autograph embossed on the exterior. Otherwise, all stays the same underneath the metal: a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 sends 545 hp and 463 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox.

The gilded GT-R will be auctioned off on eBay later this year, with the proceeds going to the Olympic runner's charity. The Usain Bolt Foundation works to create educational and cultural opportunities for kids and teenagers and Jamaica by emphasizing the importance of a having a healthy environment, teaching financial literacy, and giving kids a safe place to play.

Usain Bolt will also work with Nissan to develop a limited-run GT-R available to order, the details of which will be announced in the coming months.

That would be SICK if Nissan released this as a special edition. In general there needs to be more limited editions GTRs in OEM spec for the US market.
