Electric Audi May Appear At Frankfurt Motor Show

Rumors have been swirling about Audi debuting an electric car at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show for months now, but a website recently created by the German automaker finally adds some credibility to the notion.

Audi has publicly debunked the rumor that the company would show an electric R8 at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, but the new website, called “ElectricityUntamed,” adds fuel to the rumors of a sporty Audi EV. The website features a counter to September 15th, which is the first day of press conferences at the Frankfurt show.

These new facts have us wondering exactly which Audi model will “go electric.” The “untamed” nomenclature could suggest something wild like a sports car, but we’re told the R8 rumor is bunk. Could a TT EV be in our future, or some electrified S- or RS-model? Perhaps even a performance hybrid? We’ll find out September 15th when the vehicle is officially unveiled at the Frankfurt show.
