2008 Volvo S80 T6 Rear Three Quarter View

Read Joe Lorio's comments on driving the 2008 Volvo S80 T6.

When I first plopped myself onto the soft, overstuffed driver's seat of the S80 T6, I was immediately reminded that the S80 interior is on par with an Audi's, but done in a clean, uncomplicated Scandinavian modern style.

The new turbocharged straight six, which nestles the T6 in between the base car with its normally aspirated six and the top-spec S80 V8, provides as much power as one could reasonably want, and renders the V8 superfluous. Standard all-wheel drive (as on the V8) keeps the T6 from torque-steering all over the road, and is a worthwhile upgrade over the base car's front-wheel drive. But even without torque steer, I found that the T6 needs a lot of steering correction to maintain straight-ahead, making this cushy sedan a less serene cruiser than it ought to be.

Still, for those shopping the S80, the T6's extra power and all-wheel drive make it worth the extra cash over the base car, and yet at $42,790 it still saves $7205 compared to the V8.
