The two-door G-Class has finally reached the end of the line, and Mercedes-Benz will commemorate it with the release of special edition packages for both 2-door and 4-door models.
The Final Edition package is exclusive to the two-door and is distinguishable by the body color-matched, AMG, flared wheel arches and exclusive twin-spoke AMG rims. The four-door will receive the Edition Select package which includes blacked-out 18-inch rims, an AMG sports exhaust, and a two-tone paint job. Customers will have a choice of “designo” edition colors for the body while the bumpers, side flaps and side mirrors will be painted black. Interior touches for the four door G-wagen include two-tone leather with contrast stitching and piano-black wood accents.
The G-Class first saw duty more than three decades ago for use in the German military and, apart from powertrain upgrades and a few minor facelifts, remains mostly unchanged. While these new special edition packages only reinforce the fact that the G-Class will mostly report to mall duty rather than a war zone. That does not mean that it is not still a very capable off roader with permanent all-wheel drive and three locking differentials. Euro-spec G-Classes will come with a choice of diesel and gas engines, while the U.S. will stick with the same 5.5-liter V8 engine rated at 382 horsepower.
