2009 Dodge Ram With "rambox"

Chrysler is hoping the 2009 Dodge Ram’s innovative RamBox storage option, along with its improved power and fuel efficiency, will be enough to win over buyers in a shrinking market.

The only problem is dealers aren’t buying it – literally.

Chrysler executives have touted the RamBox as one of the new truck’s most impressive features. The RamBox is an option that offers a lockable storage compartment built into each side of the pickup bed, a cargo rail system, and a bed divider. It will be available exclusively on crew cab trucks.

But many dealers say they will not order Rams with the option until they know how much it will cost customers, something Chrysler has yet to determine. Rumors peg the price of the RamBox option between $1600 and $2100. Dodge maintains it will have an official price for the RamBox by mid-September, before the crew cab trucks reach dealerships in October.

The Ram is scheduled to arrive in other configurations next month. Prices will start at $22,170 for a rear-wheel-drive model with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine.
