Custom Mercedes-Benz Vans Are The Maybachs of Minivans

Sometimes, a minivan can hide a secret. Usually, that secret is a bunch of moldy Cheerios and a half-empty juicebox jammed next to a seatbelt buckle, but the tricked out Mercedes-Benz Vianos built by Carisma Auto Design are a bit different: they hide unrivaled luxury behind their demure and unchanged exteriors.

Carisma says that no two of its Viano V1 conversions are the same, thanks to a wealth of customization options for buyers to choose from. One thing that is common with all of the Vianos, however, is the abundant use of leather (sourced from barb-free environments, in case you care), real wood veneers, and the exacting standards of English craftspeople.

While the design shop can outfit a Viano to whatever the customer's heart desires – past requests have been to integrate outlandish things like a crystal ashtray and champagne flutes, a 42-inch television, and an integrated pen set with inkwell – Carisma has two main types of interiors: business or pleasure. In a statement, the company said that it can create a "fully functioning office on wheels" replete with "the client’s individual choice of exotic materials, audio and visual equipment."

The best parts about Carisma's conversions are that they can be installed into a brand-new Viano or retrofitted to an existing model and that the conversions remain covered by the Mercedes-Benz warranty. The Carisma Viano V1 conversion uses the top-spec 3.0-liter CDI diesel V-6 engine good for 224 hp and mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and can have an interior configuration of two-plus-two, -three, -four, -five, or –one-plus-LayFlat.

Carisma Auto Design doesn’t like to talk about base prices for its conversions, since each job varies in cost due to varying customer specifications. In case a Mercedes Viano isn't up your alley, Carisma says it will make over the cabin of any vehicle (although the Viano V1 is its primary conversion), including the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Land Rover Defender, and Volkswagen T5 van.
