Crazy Eights: Audi Sets Pricing for 2011 A8 Sedan and V-8 4.2 Quattro Models

Today Audi announced pricing for two of its most influential vehicles, the all-new 2011 A8 sedan and 2011 R8 4.2 Quattro coupe and Spyder models. The A8 will start at $78,925, while the R8 4.2 and Spyder will start at $115,475 and $128,975, respectively.

Starting at $78,925, a $3500 increase over the outgoing A8, the new model is paired with a 4.2-liter V-8 that produces 372 horsepower and 328 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed to all four corners through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Opting for the long wheelbase A8 L will tack on an extra $5950 to the sticker, a $5600 increase over the outgoing model. Destination prices were also bumped up by $50. The 2011 A8's V-8's fuel economy of 17 city and 27 highway mpg places it against its most fuel-efficient competition, namely the Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid and BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid, which deliver 19/25 and 17/26 city/highway, respectively.

Standard features found on the 2011 A8 include 19-inch wheels, Bose sound system, 18-way power heated front seats, and an eight-inch infotainment screen. The option list is composed of a Bang & Olufsen sound system, LED headlights, and a rear-seat entertainment system, among others.

This year, Audi held its V-8-powered R8 coupe's price at $115,475 while improving its horsepower to 430, an increase of 10. The new-for-2011 Spyder wears a slightly higher $128,975 price tag. Shoppers will be pleased to find Bluetooth as a new standard feature, and carbon ceramic brakes and a leather multi-function steering wheel as new options.

Expect both 2011 V-8-powered R8 models to arrive at dealers before the end of the year. Both A8 models are scheduled to arrive at dealerships across the country by November.
