Cool Cars Are Out Before 2008 Woodward Dream Cruise

1971 Pontiac Gto Judge

O.K, so the actual Woodward Dream Cruise doesn't occur until this Saturday.; However, as cruisers continue to flock to the boulevard (a phenomenon that begins weeks in advance), more interesting rides begin to appear on the street.

Hoping to catch some sweet sheetmetal, I hit Woodward Avenue last night with camera in hand.; Granted, it's hard to drive stick and shoot a (questionable quality) camera at the same time, so the results aren't the best.; Still, enjoy a quick sampling of what Woodward has to offer.; I'll be back over the next two days to capture most, if not all, the insanity.

Supercars aren't unusual sightings at the Dream Cruise, but I'd argue only the Ford GT truly looks at home on Woodward.

Their inception and music may have been (somewhat) fake, but there's no denying the Monkees' ride - a 1966 Pontiac GTO tricked out by George Barris - was rather cool.

Color us surprised - the 1965 Honda S600, with all of 57 hp and a chain-drive rear axle, trounces a Civic off the line.; So much for progress.

Long before anyone uttered the acronym "WRX," there was this: the Lancia Delta Integrale.; It came, it raced, it destroyed the WRC and altered the standard of what a rally weapon should be.

This 1972 Dodge Dart, complete with portly driver and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five blasting from the stereo, triggered waves of high school flashbacks.; Scary.

Who says America can't build hot hatches?; The Dodge Omni, when tuned by Shelby into the GLHS form, was a potent little ride - provided the aircon switch is in the 'off' position, mind you...

The Corvettes were out in full force last night, including everything from the first (this nice '53)...

...to the latest and greatest, the 2009 Corvette ZR1.; Given the traffic patterns on Woodward, there wasn't much chance for the driver to fully enjoy that LS9 underhood.
