Nissan representatives have confirmed that the Nissan Juke Nismo RS will be coming to the Los Angeles auto show next month. Although we don’t know any specific information about the Juke Nismo RS, it will slot in above the existing Juke Nismo, with enhanced performance and presumably a higher price tag.
The existing Nissan Juke Nismo (pictured here) is powered by the same 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as the standard Juke, but with nine extra horsepower and seven extra lb-ft of torque for totals of 197 hp and 184 lb-ft. Other Nismo enhancements include a body kit, a rear spoiler, special Nismo 18-inch wheels, and an Alcantara steering wheel and shift knob.
We would expect the Nissan Juke Nismo RS to offer a similar power boost as the 9 hp that the Juke Nismo offers over the standard Juke, making for approximately 210 hp. It's also possible that the Juke Nismo RS will be offered only with the Juke’s torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system, as opposed to the standard Juke and Juke Nismo which are available with front-wheel-drive. If so, we hope the standard all-wheel-drive doesn’t mean that the manual transmission is gone, but it’s a distinct possibility considering that all-wheel-drive Juke and Juke Nismo models are presently only paired with the CVT.
Otherwise, the Nissan Juke Nismo RS should carry even more aggressive styling than the already bizarre Juke and the slightly exaggerated Juke Nismo. Expect a body kit, a lowered suspension, and an aggressive wheel-and-tire package to improve on the Juke’s handling prowess and equip the chassis to deal with the extra power.
We’ve always enjoyed the Juke’s fun-to-drive character and look forward to seeing this high-performance model in the flesh. Look for more information to come about the Nissan Juke Nismo RS at the Los Angeles auto show which begins November 19.
