Behold the latest product of the unusual marketing partnership between Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division and sportbike manufacturer Ducati: a new 2012 SLK 55 AMG painted a retina-searing shade of yellow for the 2011 Bologna Motor Show.
That shade is what Mercedes-Benz calls “Streetfighter Yellow,” and for good reason. It’s actually one of three paint colors Ducati offers on its Streetfighter range, including the new-for-2012 848 Streetfighter. In addition to bathing the exterior in the special yellow color, AMG also chose a matching thread for the interior contrast stitching, which is applied to the seatbacks, door panels, steering wheel, leather-wrapped rollover bars, and dash pad. If that weren’t enough, the illuminated door sill panels emit a matching yellow light.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen AMG and Ducati roll out matching performance products at major auto shows. A white 848 Evo co-starred in a promotional film alongside a C63 AMG Coupe, and Ducati launched the Diavel AMG Special Edition bike – which incorporates several cues used on the latest CLS63 AMG – at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Presently, buyers can order their SLK55 AMG to match their Ducati Streetfighter only if the bike is painted either black or red. That said, Benz hints that the wild yellow color you see here could be made a special-order (read: expensive) option “if there is sufficient demand.”
