Citroën, GQ Magazine Partner for Concept Car

It was supposed to break in the March issue of GQ, but images of the GQ by Citroën concept -- a partnership between the magazine and the French automaker -- have made their way online a few days early.

Refreshingly, this concept isn’t meant to preview a production car or showcase the company’s greenware, but is simply a design concept. Although styled by Citroën’s creative staff, the design brief came from GQ editor Dylan Jones, who was looking for “the ultimate gentleman’s drive.”

Apparently, that translates into a rather slinky two-door shooting brake. Citroën’swavy design language appears in full force -- the front air dam is crafted mainly of long, sweeping lines, as are the car’s rear fenders. In some ways, it seems designers have taken the best elements of the wild GTbyCitroën and the wacky Hypnos show cars, and merged them into one car.

Those strong, sweeping lines continue inside the car, although the cabin’s design isn’t the product of Citroën’s design studios. The entire cabin was the responsibility of Patrick Grant, creative director at E. Tautz, a noted Savile Row tailor.

The car reportedly is a plug-in hybrid, capable of sprinting from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 155 mph -- but seeing as the only images we’ve seen of the car’s interior are renderings, we wouldn’t be surprised if the GQbyCitroën is nothing more than a static “pushmobile” model.
