Nissan couldn't have revealed two more uncommon vehicles side-by-side at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show: the 2013 refresh for the 370Z and the all-new-for-the-U.S. 2013 NV200 cargo van.
2013 Nissan 370Z
Starting with what Nissan has been known for -- its Z-car -- the 370Z sees only minor upgrades for 2013. A revised front fascia includes a squarer air intake and vertical LED running lights and a revised set of 18-inch alloy wheels are the most notable changes. There are also two new paint colors: Magma Red and Midnight Blue. 2013 Nissan 370Z Sport models gain a new 19-ich Rays wheels that hide upgraded brakes with red calipers; there is also a new "euro-tuned dampener" setup for those who opt for the Sport.
Nothing is new under the hood, with the aurally-delightful 3.7-liter VQ V-6 engine staying the course with 332 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque; the Nismo model continues with 350 hp and 276 lb-ft. Transmission choices remain as either a seven-speed automatic or rev-matching six-speed manual.
2013 Nissan NV200
Just because it won the competition to be New York City's next taxi, don't try and hail every NV200 you see drive by -- starting next year, Nissan will sell the small cargo van here in the U.S. to compete against the Ford Transit Connect and the upcoming Ram-branded version of the Fiat Doblo. Powering the NV200 will be the 2.0-liter I-4 from the Sentra, here good for 135 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque; the front wheels will receive power through a continuously variable transmission, just like Nissan's Cube, Versa hatchback, and Juke, which share the same "B" platform.
Nissan wouldn't say when the NV200 lineup would expand, just that they showed the zero-emission eNV200 Concept last month in Detroit and would be showing the New York City taxi variant in April at the New York show. Nissan does offer a passenger version of the NV200 overseas, but would not comment on if it would come here or not.
