Chevrolet Volt to Launch in Michigan, California

The Chevrolet Volt'simportanceto Michigan has been underscored by an announcementtoday at the 2010 Detroit auto show: Michigan is the second stateto be confirmed as a market for the Volt's limitedinitial launch.

The highly-anticipated plug-in hybrid will only beavailable in select markets off the batdue to the lack of charging infrastructure offered in most states. State tax incentives are also being considered for launch locations.

As it plans to do in California, GM will begin rolling out the vehicle to select utility companies in Michigan beginning this November. And according to company CEO Ed Whitacre, GM may deliver a few units to consumers even before November.

In the first year of production, GM is poised to produce up to 10,000 units. In the following years, the automaker is planning up to 60,000 units annually. The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is scheduled to go on sale at retail locations at the end of this year.
