Chevrolet is commemorating the Corvette C6.R’s racing success with a limited edition 2009 Corvette GT1 Championship Edition.
The new model is strictly an appearance package, but it adds several distinguishing features to celebrate the C6.R’s success. The GT1 Championship Edition body features a Corvette Racing ‘Jake’ logo in the center of the hood, which is also flanked by driver flag graphics. Also included in the package are a ZR1-style spoiler and chrome wheels.
The interior of the GT1 Edition also varies from a standard Corvette. Unfortunately, GM didn’t take the package so far as including racing seats, but the seats do feature GT1 embroidery. GT1 embroidery is also found on the instrument panel and center console. The interior can only be had in ebony leather with exclusive yellow accent stitching.
Under the hood, the same LS3 or LS7 V-8 engine is found (depending on the model), but wearing unique trim. The engine cover is unique to the GT1 edition with a carbon fiber pattern and yellow Corvette lettering. The coupe and convertible GT1 Championship editions do come with the Z51 performance package.
The new package is available on coupe and convertible 4LT trims and on the Z06 3LZ trim level for an additional $7480. It is available in black or yellow, with each color receiving a unique VIN series to represent the C6R. Only 100 of each body style and color combination will be produced for a total of 600 in spring of 2009.
