New spy shots show that the Mini remains hard at work preparing the basic Cooper Hardtop model, and give us a slightly better look at the car's headlight and taillight designs. Possibly ready for the 2014 model year, the next-generation Mini Cooper Hardtop is just one of many new Minis set to expand the brand's market reach.
Unlike earlier test mules, this one features headlights with a halo suggesting LED daytime running lights similar to those found on BMW models. The halo appears to have an integrated turn signal as well. Previous spy shots revealed BMW-inspired switchgear inside the Mini’s interior.
Wider taillights are visible through the camouflage, and we clearly see center-mounted dual-exhaust tips like those on the current S model. What appears to be a removable panel sits where the hood scoop would normally be placed on the turbocharged models, so some design details remain hidden. We’ve seen how the 2013 Mini Countryman has moved the window controls to the door from between the driver and passenger; expect a few similar interior changes for the next-generation Mini Cooper to increase practicality without sacrificing the charm that draws consumers to the brand.
