This spy shot from our friends at Motor Trend shows a test mule for the Mini Paceman concept, which Mini first showcased at the 2011 Detroit auto show. While a production version is apparently on the way, the Paceman name will apparently not come with it, as rumor has it the model will arrive instead as the Mini Countryman Coupe.
Much of the Paceman concept’s original lines remain intact in production form. The front end looks virtually identical to that of the standard Countryman, but things start to get interesting beyond the A-pillar. The most obvious difference is the absence of rear doors, along with the sloping roofline and rear window. In back, the taillights appear closer in shape to the Paceman concept than the four-door Countryman, looking wider and more rounded.
Drivetrain options for the Countryman Coupe are expected to be shared with the standard Countryman, which gets either a turbocharged or naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Judging by this test mule’s production-ready looks, the Mini Countryman Coupe could make its debut later this year.
