With rumors swirling about Carroll Shelby’s declining health, the custom car builder cleared things up by posting a status update on Facebook. In the update, Shelby says he’s been in the hospital for the past several months with pneumonia, and is now “resting comfortably with [his] family and working on getting better.”
Shelby was supposed to attend the 2012 New York auto show for the debut of his latest creations, the 950-hp Shelby 1000 and 1100-hp Shelby 1000 S/C, but had to cancel due to health reasons. In his Facebook post, the founder of Shelby American and godfather of the iconic Shelby Cobra apologizes for being unable to attend events, and says a representative can appear on his behalf while he recovers. The update gives no time frame regarding how long Shelby expects to be in the hospital.
Shelby says future updates will be posted by his PR team on his behalf, and ends the post with, “Thanks for all the good wishes and thoughts.” Looking through the nearly-250 comments on the post (as of this writing), it’s clear he has his fans’ support.
