Carroll Shelby Loans Racing Stripes to Pedal-Powered Cruiser

Felt bicycles offers the perfect alternative for Shelby fanatics who weren’t able to satisfy their craving with the 2011 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350: the Shelby Cruiser.

Ok, so it’s not exactly the 5.0-liter, DOHC V-8 muscle machine we've long associated with the name, but the latest Shelby-badged creation was developed in partnership with Felt Bicycles. The new cruiser reportedly pays homage to the famous Wimbledon White and Guardsman Blue paint scheme, making it a little easier for people to say they own a new Shelby.

“Carroll is known for his determination to succeed and his passion for performance,” said Felt President Bill Duehring.  “These attributes propelled Shelby to the pinnacle of auto racing and inspired a legion of fans.  At Felt Bicycles, we share these same values and we are honored to be part of this project.”

Built around Felt’s hydroformed aluminum tank frame, the bike sports high-performance three-speed Nexus internal gearing, while 36 spoke wheels wrapped in “blue dot” tires (which reportedly resemble automotive racing tires) allow the bike to effortlessly keep rolling. And, of course, in Shelby fashion, the bike allegedly offers quick, precise steering, thanks in part to a front springer fork.

Every single detail on the cruiser is geared to embody Shelby’s vintage cars, with each bicycle badged and serial numbered to ensure authenticity. So, instead of shelling out $63,000 for the new GT350, $999 for the cruiser will get you a little piece of the Shelby action. Sadly, it doesn't appear to net you a "real" Shelby VIN number, something the company frequently touts on its performance-tuned Mustangs.

The limited edition Shelby Cruiser will be available through Felt Bicycles and its retailers beginning in later this month.
