Cadillac Recalling 47,401 SRX Crossovers to Fix Faulty Airbag Programming

Cadillac and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are issuing a recall for the 2011 Cadillac SRX. The car’s airbag control module may disable the right curtain airbag, reducing protection for passengers in the right-rear seat.

The Problem: If the Cadillac’s airbag computer determines that nobody is seated in the front passenger seat, it disables the right-hand roof-rail airbag. That means that if a passenger were sitting in the right-rear seat, but the front-passenger seat was empty, the airbag would fail to deploy. NHTSA warns this could cause an increased risk of injuries to rear-seat passengers. The airbag would still deploy in a roll-over accident.

The Fix: Cadillac will recall all affected vehicles and reprogram the airbag sensing and diagnostic computer module.
