Brabus Tunes 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Wagon To 838 HP

As if it wasn't already impressive that Mercedes-Benz offers a station wagon with 577 hp, German tuner Brabus has upped the ante with a special version of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG rated for 838 hp. Shown at the 2013 Essen auto show in Germany, the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo is said to reach 62 mph in just 3.1 seconds before reaching its electronically limited top speed of 217 mph.

To increase power over the standard 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, Brabus bores and strokes the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine so it displaces 5.9 liters. Larger turbochargers, a new cylinder head, a carbon-fiber air intake that draws air through a duct in the front fascia, a new exhaust, and gold-wrapped intake tubes help push output to 838 hp and 1069 lb-ft of torque. The exhaust has two different modes, controlled by a switch in the cabin, that are appropriately called, "Sport" and "Coming Home."

Brabus will offer its tuning kit for both sedan and wagon versions of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, though the sedan can only hit 186 mph due to tire and load constraints. In addition, Brabus will sell its tuned car either with rear- or all-wheel drive, as the customer desires. In the U.S. market, all versions of the new E63 AMG come standard with 4Matic all-wheel drive. Combined fuel economy, according to Brabus, will be equivalent to 23 mpg.

Along with the performance increase, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG receives new carbon-fiber bodywork, including a front splitter and a rear diffuser, plus Brabus-designed 20-inch wheels, and larger aluminum shift paddles for the seven-speed automatic transmission.

In the U.S. market, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG sedan offers 550 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque, while the E63 AMG S-Model sedan and wagon offer 577 hp and 590 lb-ft. That's good for a claimed 3.5-second 0-to-60-mph sprint for the S-Model sedan.
