That 550-hp grocery-getter Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG or GL63 AMG not quick enough for you? Brabus has a fix for that. The German Mercedes tuner has just released its latest take on the two AMG crossovers, giving each a power boost to an astonishing 690 hp, and a new name – the Brabus B63 S-700 Widestar.
The added power and top speed unsurprisingly comes due to revisions to the Mercedes ML63 AMG and GL63 AMG's 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8, which makes 550 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque (when the ML63 AMG is equipped with the optional Performance Package). Brabus fits each –err, Widestar – with larger turbos, gold under-hood insulation, big three-inch downpipes, an active sport exhaust system, and an ECU tweak. The result is a monster of a V-8 that makes 690 hp and 708 lb-ft of electrically-limited torque – anymore would risk breaking either the seven-speed automatic gearbox, or the driveshaft. Brabus claims the ML63-based Widestar can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds, while the GL63-based Widestar needs 4.6 seconds. Both are electronically-limited to 186 mph – the highest speed the tires can handle.
Speaking of tires, Brabus has fit each with massive 23x11-inch wheels, which are shod with 315/25/ZR/23 tires on the ML63 AMG model, and 305/30ZR/23 tires on the GL63 AMG model. Brabus is able to fit such wide rubber on the Widestar due to the – wait for it – wide fender flares it has fit to the Mercedes AMG SUVs. Brabus' ML63 is widened 2.4 inches, while the GL63 is now 3.1-inches wider than before. In addition to the wide-body kit, each SUV gets a functional front and rear spoiler, and some not-so-functional side air inlets.
Inside, the Brabus Widestar range gets a Brabus steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles, and the buyer's choice of either wood or carbon fiber trim. Each custom Mercedes also gets a teakwood floor in the trunk.
Brabus is now taking orders for the B63 S-700 Widestar, and we're sure each one they sell will go to someone with impeccable taste, and love of the ridiculous.
