By June this year, BMW will begin offering its intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive system with the 5 Series Gran Turismo.
Whether it’s a car or a crossover, the 5 Series Gran Turismo is certainly a special vehicle within the Bavarian lineup. Despite being marketed as a 5 Series, the 5GT is underpinned by 7 Series architecture and motivated by either a 300-horsepower, 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six (535i) or 400-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 (550i).
Paired with xDrive, the 550i xDrive Gran Turismo rockets from 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds and achieves a combined fuel economy of 23.9 mpg, according to the European Union test cycle. Performance data on the 535i xDrive Gran Turismo was unspecified, as was pricing for both models. While xDrive will be paired with the V-8 model first, the 535i xDrive GT will be available in September.
