BMW Performance Gives X6 Owners More Power, Performance with New Parts Program

Owners who think their 2008-2010 BMW X6 isn’t sporty enough had better take notice: BMW Performance is now offering a new lineup of parts that boost power, performance, and styling to levels right below those of the $90,000 X6 M. Included in the catalog are a Power Kit, aerodynamic replacement pieces, 21-inch wheels, and a sportier flat-bottom steering wheel.

A reprogrammed ECU gives the smaller X6 xDrive35i 20 more horsepower and bumps up torque by 32 pound feet, for a total of 320 horsepower and 332 pound-feet. Those xDrive50i drivers who opt for the kit can expect an impressive 440 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque under their right foot -- that's up 40 horses and 30 pound-feet of torque over stock. A deeper growling, likely freer-flowing exhaust is in development, so expect it sometime this winter.

Of course, with power on board both models evolve into faster machines, so says BMW. Engineers claim that the 35i hits 60 mph from a standstill in 6.3 seconds, while the bigger 50i does the same sprint in 5 seconds flat (each is 0.2 seconds over their stock counterparts).

Wind tunnel-tested aerodynamics add a more aggressive touch to the controversially styled SUV, while cutting drag and lift. Front and rear bumpers, side skirts, rear fins, and a deck spoiler are all replaced with redesigned pieces. The massive polished 21-inch wheels not only look the motorsport part, but the help in properly applying power. Inside, Alcantara wraps the multifunction flat-bottom steering wheel.

Pricing for each of the components has yet to be released, but when it hits the Web, we'll be sure to let you know.
