BMW has developed a mobile app that grants users the ability to share and discover fun driving roads on the go. Called “The Ultimate Drive,” the app was developed by BMW Group Financial Services to bring enthusiasts together, helping them to find new roads and allowing them to share, rate, and comment on them. BMW Financial Services claims to be the first automotive channel to produce its own social navigation app, and hopes “The Ultimate Drive” will strengthen its connection with the organization’s nearly-one million customers.
Powered by software developed by San Francisco technology firm SocialNav, inc., “The Ultimate Drive” uses the GPS of Android- or iOS-based devices to find a user’s location and displays the highest-ranked roads in the area. The app can show you nearby driving roads in more than 50 countries, practically guaranteeing you’ll find a fun way home no matter where you are. Users can rank the roads they’ve driven and share them with others through facebook or email with a few taps of the touch screen interface. Routes car also be sent to a GPS device. BMW says that future versions will allow users to gain points based on how many roads they’ve driven, integrating a user ranking system similar to other social networking apps and sites.
“Within a few seconds of opening the app, ‘The Ultimate Drive’ connects you to driving enthusiasts who have discovered great roads in your neighborhood – roads you may have overlooked,” said BMW Group Financial Services General Manager of Online Business Pawan Murthy in a release. “Sharing that joy of discovery is why we are eager to launch this app to everyone.”
BMW Financial Services is also developing versions of the app for the Mini and BMW Motorrad motorcycle brands. “The Ultimate Drive” is currently available at the Apple App Store and Android Marketplace as a free download.
