BMW has announced that it will offer a new line of specialty performance parts and accessories for its BMW M5 and BMW M6 models. The most notable upgrades include the M Carbon-Ceramic Brake System and M Performance Exhaust System. The tweaks are available for all three versions of the BMW M6: the coupe, the convertible, and the four-door Gran Coupe.
Further enhancing the already impressive performance of the BMW M5 and M6, the carbon-ceramic brake system has both lighter and more heat-resistant rotors than the standard braking system. Offered in conjunction with 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, the system employs brake discs with 16.1-inch diameter on the front axle, a 0.4-inch improvement from the standard 15.7-inches. Rear brake discs remain 15.6 inches in diameter. When all is said and done, the brake system will take off 42.8 lbs from the standard BMW M5 or BMW  M6, allowing for better deceleration and handling.
For that all-too-important growl, BMW M GmbH and specialists from Akrapovic have engineered a full titanium exhaust system that reduces weight by more than 22 lbs, improving performance in addition to providing a sportier sound.
BMW M owners who wish to fully outfit their vehicle with interior accessories can ante up for an Alcantara leather steering wheel and race display, which communicates information such as gear shifts and lap times to the driver. Also available are carbon mirror caps, M Performance high-gloss black front grille specific to each model, carbon interior trim, stainless steel pedals, and M Performance floor mats.
Coupled with the 2014 BMW M5 or BMW M6 Competition Package, these upgrades have the ability to really take the stock M models to another level. BMW has yet to announce pricing for the M Performance line, but we’ll stay tuned in the coming weeks and months.
