Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to spot the BMW concept car in the next Mission: Impossible movie. BMW’s EfficientDynamics/ i8 concept will star alongside actor Tom Cruise in the fourth iteration of the film franchise, dubbed Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
The EfficientDynamics concept bowed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, with fancy vertical-opening doors and an ambitious plug-in hybrid powertrain. BMW said the concept used a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbodiesel engine mated to an electric motor, with an additional electric motor powering the front axle.
BMW will put the EfficientDynamics concept into production as the i8, which we previously spied in cold-weather testing. The i8 is to be a high-performance plug-in hybrid and will launch in 2013, at the same time as the smaller i3 electric city car. Both will use an aluminum chassis and carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) body panels.
BMW’s presence in the film/ Bimmermercial also appears to include a new 6 Series convertible. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol will be in theaters this December. You can tide yourself over until then by watching the trailer below.
