We like to complain about weight. Sometimes carmakers respond to those complaints by building lightweight versions of their increasingly heavy cars.; Rumor had it that there would be a CSL (Coupe Sports Lightweight) version of the latest, and some would argue greatest, BMW M3. Car magazine has conveniently dashed those hopes for us today.
The head of BMW's M division, Ludwig Willisch, told car "Based on current numbers, there is most likely insufficient demand for the M3 CSL." That doesn't rule out an E92 M3 CSL altogether, but it probably means that the Bavarians will wait until sales of the new coupes, sedans, and convertibles slow.
According to Car's sources, the new M3 CSL was to lose about 220 pounds, while receiving an extra 35-55 hp.
For now at least, it looks like you'll have to remove the interior and add the go-fast parts yourself.
