Last October, Chery took a track-ready version of the turbocharged Riich G5 to the Nürburgring, shocking enthusiasts around the world. The automaker is showing the car at the Beijing auto show this week, claiming it lapped the Green Hell in 8 minutes/56 seconds, which is close to a Range Rover Sport, per Wikipedia 'Ring lore.
There are some differences between the car that lapped the Nürburgring and the one pictured here. The 'Ring car had little in the way of an interior, other than racing buckets and an unnamed Lotus test driver. The G5 at the auto show features a full interior that looks suspiciously Volkswagen-ish. We're unsure of tires and engine modifications used on the track, but as the G5 sits here, its turbo 2.0-liter engine routes 168 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed manual.
