Auto supplier Hella is working to provide more interior lighting options for new car buyers, a report from WardsAuto says. Today, most car shoppers don’t make a big fuss about interior illumination, but Hella says that could soon change.
Hella has been studying interior illumination options and says that while demand for LED lighting is on the rise, bulb lighting isn’t going away anytime soon. When it comes to colors, males prefer ice-blue, while females favor amber. Hella also predicts 12 percent of all vehicles in North and South America will include some sort of interior LED lighting by 2016. Additionally, more automakers are looking into lighting for door handles, cupholders, and map pocket (commonly referred to as ambient lighting). Most premium brands already offer ambient lighting throughout their lineup. Mini, for example, offers ambient lighting that can be adjusted for brightness and color.

Hella is even looking into personalizing exterior lights. Soon, drivers may get the option to personalize what color their vehicle’s headlamps and taillights flash when clicking the key fob. One trend Hella thankfully will not entertain is flashing lights synced to a car’s sound system (think Kia Soul).
