Audi is looking to make a big splash at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show with this concept, the Sport Quattro Hybrid. Although we’ll have to wait to see official photos of the car, a few sketches of the Audi Sport Quattro Hybrid have leaked, revealing an aggressive front end and a hatchback-like profile harkening back to the original Audi Quattro.
There was a similar-looking Audi Quattro concept at the 2010 Paris Motor Show to celebrate 30 years of Audi’s four-wheel-drive system. If this concept ends up looking anything like these sketches, though, it will be even more of a show-stopper than the 2010 car, with its striking vents, aggressive grille, and rakish fastback profile.
According to a report from Auto Express, this latest Quattro concept is meant to highlight a new hybrid drivetrain and will actually be built in limited numbers starting in 2016, alongside RS models and the Audi R8. The Quattro will reportedly sit above the R8 in price, making it the most expensive Audi model.
The report also claims that the Sport Quattro Hybrid will be built on the same platform as the Audi RS5 and will be a four-seater. Instead of the five-cylinder engine from the previous Quattro concept, this concept will likely be powered by a hybrid system featuring the same 4.0-liter turbocharged V-8 from the RS6 and RS7 matched with an electric motor. Since that engine already produces 560 hp in the RS cars, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more than 600 hp in the Sport Quattro Hybrid, put down to the road through Audi’s Quattro four-wheel-drive system, of course.
Look out for the Audi Sport Quattro Hybrid concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
