If you’re running late for the senior prom, drive something fast. If you’ve got lots of friends, take a swanky limo. If you need a bit of both, call England’s Limo Broker, as it is reportedly working on building a stretched form of Audi’s exotic R8.
Limo Broker says that the Audi R8 limo will be the world’s fastest limo, which means that it should top the crazy Ferrari 360 limousine we saw some time ago. Interestingly, the R8 Limo will be built by Carbonyte UK, the same firm that stretched to the aforementioned Ferrari.
To make sure that the limo truly is the world’s fastest, the R8 donor car will be an R8 5.2, which gets its oomph from a 5.2-liter V-10 engine with 528 horsepower. From the photos, it appears that the limo will get Audi’s R tronic automated-manual transmission, but there’s no word if the car retains its all-wheel drive setup with the elongated wheelbase.
The limo conversion adds three rows of bucket seats to the R8, which means it’ll seat a total of eight people. Those seats are upholstered in a deep red, which should pop against the dark gray interior and white exterior. When it’s time to get in and out, the second and third rows are accessed through gullwing doors, while doors for the first and fourth rows are conventionally hinged.
As happens with most stretched cars, the R8 limo might raise more questions of taste than it does of practicality--we already know that the R8 is a very livable supercar--but the whole package hasn’t ruined the original car, per se. Feel differently? Let us know in the comments.
