Aston Martin V12 Vantage S is Second-Quickest Aston Ever

Aston Martin estimates that its latest V12 Vantage S can scoot from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which would put it only behind the exclusive One-77 hypercar as the second-quickest Aston ever built. That time also humbles the sports car maker's range-topping GT, the 2014 Vanquish, which is estimated at 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds.

The previous V12 Vantage matched the current Vanquish in automaker-estimated acceleration with an identical 4.1-second 0-60 mph time. With output of the 5.9-liter V-12 raised to 565 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque (up 55 hp and 37 lb-ft), and the six-speed manual transmission replaced with a Sportshift III six-speed automated manual unit, the new car's acceleration gains aren't surprising. The V12 Vantage S' estimated top speed of 205 mph (15 mph faster than the old model's rating) also makes it the second-fastest Aston ever produced, next to the One-77.

In addition to drivetrain updates, the V12 Vantage S receives a new "Sport" mode button, which modifies throttle response, shift timing, and exhaust note. Ride and handling characteristics can be adjusted through Aston's improved Adaptive Damping System, which also tunes the quick-ratio ZF-Servotronic steering.

Aston Martin also announced pricing for the upcoming car, which will start at $187,820, including destination and gas guzzler tax. The V12 Vantage S arrives early 2014.
