Another Look: 2012 Euro Honda Civic Teased Without Camo

Honda’s still teasing the 2012 European-spec Civic in advance of its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but the latest look is a little less cryptic than before. This photo gives us a pretty good, uncamouflaged look at the 2012 Civic hatchback’s roofline and rear quarters.

From what we can tell, the new car preserves a bit of the roofline of the last-gen Euro Civic hatch, while blending in a few cues used on today’s Insight and CR-Z models. The rear taillamps are now connected by the high-mounted stoplight, which also doubles as a lip spoiler and breaks the large expanse of glass into two smaller sections.

There’s only a little bit of U.S. Civic DNA in this model--the angular taillamps are vaguely reminiscent of the American ones--but as we previously reported, the Euro Civic will still be a completely different car from the one gracing our shores. Powertrain options have yet to be detailed, but one offering includes a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine pushing out 150 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. According to Honda, this engine emits less than 110 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer traveled, which should exempt the Civic’s owners from having to pay road tax their first year of ownership.

Full details will likely emerge over the weeks to come, but expect the 2012 Euro Civic to debut in its entirety on September 13th. Stay with Automobile Magazine for the latest news from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

If the new Type S doesn't have 250 HP or more they shouldn't even bother with it.
