All-New 2012 Hyundai Azera to Bow at Los Angeles Auto Show

After Hyundai launched both the Genesis sedan and its Equus flagship here in the United States, it's not too surprising that the aging Azera -- previously its most upscale sedan -- has sort of fallen off the map. That should change come November, when an all-new generation debuts at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. Hyundai, which confirmed the debut scheduling yesterday via Twitter, also stated that engineers are in the final stages of tuning the U.S.-spec car's ride and handling.

We first learned of the updated Azera last November, when we found renderings of the Korean-spec model. The domestic version looks almost identical to what we’ll receieve, but will instead be named the Grandeur. Months later, we had another look at the Grandeur/Azera when Hyundai released a video of the new sedan. If you like the Sonata’s interpretation of Hyundai’s fluidic sculpture design theme, then the Azera will not disappoint. It will sport the same waterfall-style grill along with a dramatic character lines, especially at the rear. Interior shots are harder to come by, but we expect the plush Hyundai to mimic cues found in the Genesis.

The bigger sedan will also receive a larger engine. In Korea, the Grandeur will be fitted with a 3.0-liter, direct-injected V6 that should put out close to 270 hp. Other markets also have the option of a smaller 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine. It’s rumored that the U.S. version will get an even bigger 3.5-liter V6 with more than 300 hp.

Hyundai's mum on the subject for the time being, but we'll know for sure this fall. Stay tuned...
