Alfa Romeo Builds Special MiTo for Maserati Dealer Network

#Maserati

Let’s say you need to take your brand-new Maserati GranCabrio in for service -- what, then, do you ride home in? If you happen to be in Europe, the answer may lie with a special-edition Alfa Romeo MiTo hatchback.

Now part of the same Fiat brand group, Maserati partnered with Alfa to create special upscale versions of the MiTo to be used as “courtesy cars” at its European dealer network. Each MiTo is trimmed in hues ripped from Maserati’s catalog -- the exterior is painted an “ocean blue” hue, while the interior receives tan Frau leather seating. Each car receives navigation, bi-xenon headlamps, 18-inch aluminum wheels, Blue&Me (Fiat’s version of Ford’s Sync system), and emblems reading “Alfa Romeo for Maserati.”

Although nowhere as powerful as the V-8s found in current Maserati offerings, the Maserati MiTos will be fitted with the most powerful engine in the MiTo range: a 170-hp turbocharged 1.4-liter I-4. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, as is Alfa’s dynamic suspension, lending the car a sporty feel in the twisties.

Only 100 examples of the special-edition MiTo will be built, and all are destined for Maserati dealers in Europe. Until Maserati dealers find a different option for a courtesy car, we doubt many (if any at all) of these MiTos will make their way into consumers’ hands.
