German Volkswagen Tuner ABT Sportsline has been in the business of making Wolfsburg's finest vehicles faster for 40 years. Their latest project is based on the brand-new Touareg that is just starting to roll into dealerships now. While the engine programs are based around the diesel version, being a full-line tuner they offer a little bit for everyone.
Based on the same platform as Porsche's amazing Cayenne, the VW always feels like it could handle a little more power than what the factory viewed as sufficient. The engine program for the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 comes in two stages. Stage 1 is a software update that brings power figures up to the 282-horsepower mark and torque up to a more respectable 428 pound-feet. Stage 2 adds a new turbocharger which cranks the power up to a somewhat conservative sounding 310 horsepower and torque to 450 pound-feet. These numbers are based on the European Touareg's 3.0-liter TDI V-6, which from the factory is rated at 240 horsepower and 405 pound-feet.
ABT can also help you add a very subtle bit of show to the go. Known to be more conservative aesthetically; it offers an aerodynamic kit that consists of a front grill, rear spoiler and rear valence. While the rear spoiler is likely functional, we doubt anything more than curb appeal from the other two pieces. If the aerodynamics aren't quite enough for you, then two different styles of wheels are also available in sizes up to 22-inch diameter.
ABT hasn't given pricing yet on the new parts, but expect them to be on the high side of what Americans are accustomed to paying for tuning parts. For more information check out ABT's site here, if you are a little rusty on your German, we recommend their UK site here.
