Update: 247-hp 2012 Ford Focus ST Appear At Woodward Dream Cruise

Enthusiasts, get ready: Ford will be showing off the 2012 Focus ST performance hatch at this weekend’s Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, Michigan.

Although the production-spec car will be shown next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Ford's bringing out an early example a little ahead of schedule. Ford has also confirmed power output for the ST at 247 hp, right around what we had previously reported. As the enthusiasts’ offering in the Focus lineup, the ST will of course come with a shift-it-yourself six-speed manual and “race-tuned suspension.” Peak torque is expected to be at least 250 lb-ft and the ST will continue to be front-wheel drive.

The new Focus ST made its first appearance at last year’s Paris Motor Show in concept form. The five-door hatchback swapped out the Volvo-sourced five-cylinder from the previous Euro-only generation for Ford’s new turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecoboost inline-four. The new model will be available worldwide, including North America. Ford has confirmed that the Focus ST will go on sale in the U.S. as soon as next spring.

We already saw the Focus ST undergoing its final stages of testing, and can’t wait to see the final car this weekend. It will be the first time since the discontinuation of the SVT Focus in 2004 that Ford will offer a performance variant of its compact in the U.S. To hot hatch enthusiasts like ourselves, the ST can’t come soon enough.

UPDATE: Ford representatives insist the production-spec ST will debut at Frankfurt. The car appearing at Woodward will simply be the same concept that was rolled out in Paris.
