2015 Porsche Macan Priced at $51,095, Turbo From $73,495

The 2015 Porsche Macan just made its debut at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show this week, and Porsche has already released full pricing courtesy of the Macan’s online build-your-own tool. The 2015 Porsche Macan S starts at $51,095, and the more powerful Macan Turbo starts at a lofty $73,495 with destination.

The 2015 Porsche Macan S is powered by a 340-horsepower, twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6, paired with all-wheel-drive and a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Stepping up to the Porsche Macan Turbo gets you a larger, 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 that makes 400 horsepower. The Macan’s starting price may seem high compared to the larger Porsche Cayenne SUV’s base price of $50,595, but the base Cayenne has a less powerful, 300-horsepower V-6; the more equivalent 400-hp Cayenne S starts at $67,795 which makes more sense with the Porsche model hierarchy.

We would expect Porsche to release more Macan models in the future, most likely a base Macan with a naturally-aspirated V-6 and possibly a Turbo S model to sit at the top of the Macan range. Diesel and Hybrid models are possibilities as well, especially considering that the Cayenne lineup includes a Cayenne Diesel and a Cayenne S Hybrid.

The 2015 Porsche Macan’s most direct competitors are the 2014 Audi SQ5 (with which the Macan shares its platform), the 2014 BMW X3 xDrive 35i, and the 2014 Infiniti QX70 5.0. These range in base price from $45,825 for the 300-hp BMW and $52,795 for the 340-hp Audi which compete with the Macan S, to $62,495 for the 390-hp Infiniti which more closely rivals the Macan Turbo.

As with all Porsches, adding options to the Macan drives the price up quickly. Plenty of the optional features on the Porsche Macan are things you would expect, like a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, numerous active safety features, and either Bose or Burmester upgraded audio systems. But options like the $3120 Aurum Metallic exterior color, the $1540 Alcantara headliner, and the $1490 carbon fiber interior package strike us as overkill. All in, a loaded up Macan S will top $90,000, with a Macan Turbo rocketing above $100,000 without even adding frivolities like a leather key pouch or specially-trimmed saddle brown seatbelts.

The 2015 Porsche Macan will go on sale in the U.S. in late spring 2014. Until then, check out the Porsche Macan’s online configurator here.

I think the Macan will be great & become the best selling Porsche.

Range Rover will be introducing an RS version of the Evoque with 300bhp next year. Lots of choice in this sector.

Just what we needed one more SUV, a VW product with a Porsche name.  The sheep will race to put their money down on it hoping to secure a little self-respect in the Suburbs.
