Godzilla gets even more monstrous this year with the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo, and this upgraded supercar has just thrown down a hot lap at the venerable Nürburgring racetrack in Germany. The time of 7 minutes and 8 seconds is hugely impressive and trails only the Porsche 918 Spyder’s 6 minute and 57 lap time set earlier this year in production car Nürburgring lap times.
The 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo’s 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V-6 has 55 horsepower more than the standard GT-R for a total of 600 hp, along with a stiffer suspension, aerodynamic modifications, and lightweight materials. You wouldn’t think, then, that these relatively minor improvements would make for a crazy 10 second improvement over the standard Nissan GT-R’s best Nürburgring time.
The driver for this impressive lap was German racing driver Michael Krumm, who narrates the video shown below. Obviously the Nissan GT-R Nismo is powerful, but another recurring theme of Krumm’s narration is the car’s improved stability, which is partly a result of the enhanced downforce from the aerodynamic modifications.
The 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo makes its official debut at the 2013 Tokyo auto show and 2013 Los Angeles auto show this week, and will go on sale in the U.S., Japan, and Europe next year. Check out the video below to see the GT-R Nismo attack the Nürburgring accompanied by interesting play-by-play commentary from Krumm.
